From Deltaville, VA to Annapolis, MD

Updating this blog from Annapolis on Sunday July 10. (having trouble uploading picture with a town server we are connected to except for one)

We finally left Deltaville, VA on Friday July 8. It had been stormy and rainy all Thursday and Thursday night.

 For once, the forecast was actually correct. We saw an opportunity after the last series of storms passed at around 10AM and decided to make a run to Point Lookout, off the mouth of the Potomac River,  about 50 miles away, before the next storms were to arrive. We had been warned that the mouth of the Potomac can be rough…and it lived up to its reputation: following seas with 3-4 footers at rapid frequency. Not pleasant for about 15 miles. I never knew Michael could spread his legs that far apart (to stabilize his stance, AH! AH!).  I stayed on the bridge but on my knees. When I decided to go check the cabin after it calmed down a bit, I was greeted by 24 wine bottles all over the floor that had flown out of the wine cooler…only one bottle had broken, but it was a RED SHIRAZ. No picture needed to visualize the mess. 2 hours later, we had most of it cleaned up. All this with my life jacket on!

We spend the night tied up at Point Lookout marina under the rain. Michael purposely took us here so that we could experience Maryland Blue Crabs at their restaurant served on the table with a mallet and claw crusher.

 It was an experience I will not soon forget.

Next day, we left for Solomons Island, 40 miles away. The trip was calm, as forecasted. We anchored on Mill creek. The entire area is busy, especially on a Saturday, yet pretty and laid back. We saw what not to do…apparently a sailboat had sunk the day before in the storms and we could see it upside down.

We headed off to Annapolis early this morning and arrived here at 1PM. Anchoring in the main harbor was impossible due to our size and the density of the city mooring field. So we ended up in the far end of Back Creek.  Wow! This area is a real busy boating place: marinas after marinas, sail boats densely docked everywhere. The entrance to Annapolis harbor was a real mess with boats coming and going in all directions, many of them under sail…

Deltaville, VA

We are in Deltaville, VA. The Chesapeake on the way from Yorktown was rather calm. But thunderstorms abound. We are staying at the marina where the boat was when we bought her last year. There is a small but very clean and pleasant swimming pool. Also taking advantage of water to do some laundry. Michael thinks the boat looks like "Chinese laundry".

Our wine cooler decided to stop working (still under warranty)...so Michael had to work the logistics about getting parts shipped when and where. We'll pick up parts in Annapolis next week, shipped to an acquaintance address. We can't be without the wine cooler for too long OMG!

Weather has turned a bit ugly these past couple of days, with rain and violent thunderstorms in the afternoons and evenings. Glad we are at a dock.
Planning on pushing to St Mary City Friday, then Salomon Island (highly recommended by other boaters) for a couple days if weather cooperates, then off to Annapolis.
We may not get internet connection until Annapolis.
